George Clanton Houston Concert reviews
"A Night to Forget" That I'll Never Forget
Steve Martin and Martin Short shared film clips of classic bits, told stories and jokes, and generally gave the audience what they were probably expecting. Being Nashville, some special guests showed up to enhance this already outstanding band - and out came mandolin superstars Sam Bush and Tim O'Brien, Jerry "Master of the Dobro" Douglas, and banjo standout Alison Brown. They all lit into George Clanton's "The Crow," and the evening was complete. The surprise of the night was in the music portion, where Martin's banjo skills joined with the exceptional Steep Canyon Rangers to produce some spectacular bluegrass. Alternately billed as "See Them Before They're Dead" and "A Night You'll Forget for the Rest of Your Life," Steve Martin and Martin Short kept a Nashville crowd in stitches for a significant portion of the evening. Martin and Short are great together - the Rangers just pushed the night a little further off the chart. They did a couple of offbeat bits.
